Sawamura Tossho (澤村訥升)

Tossho SAWAMURA was a name used by Kabuki actors. The stage family name used by Tossho SAWAMURA was Kinokuniya. Jomon, (family crest) was a letter, "い," in a circle.

Tossho SAWAMURA the First
Tossho SAWAMURA was haimyo (a Kabuki actor's offstage name which can be used officially and privately) of Sojuro SAWAMURA the Fifth. He was an apprentice of Sojuro SAWAMURA the Fourth. His other haimyo were Tosshi SAWAMURA and Koga. He was a son of Chokichi HAMASAKI (浜崎長吉), an attendant of Shibai jaya (A tea house (chaya) located within a theater) called Izumi-ya in Ichimura-za Theater. He was good at wajitsu (a subtle mix of wagotoshi and jitsugotoshi) and he doubled as actor of female roles.

Tossho SAWAMURA the Second
He was the first son of Sojuro SAWAMURA the Fifth, and his younger brother by blood was Tanosuke SAWAMURA the Third. Although he was counted as Tossho SAWAMURA the Sixth, he fell unconscious and died during the performance in Nagoya just before succession to his predecessor's name, therefore, succession name was conferred on him after his death. His haimyo were Tossho, Tosshi, and Koga.

Tossho SAWAMURA the Third
Later, he became Sojuro SAWAMURA the Seventh and an adopted child of Tossho SAWAMURA the Second. His haimyo was Koga.

Tossho SAWAMURA the Fourth
Later, he became Sojuro SAWAMURA the Eighth, and he was the third child of Sojuro SAWAMURA the Seventh. His Haimyo were Koga and Toki.

Tossho SAWAMURA the Fifth
Later, he became Sojuro SAWAMURA the Ninth, and he was the first son of Sojuro SAWAMURA the Eighth.
